Senseless Tragedy

I was shocked to hear about the murder of a man on the Northwest side of Chicago, Michael Justo. He and his pets were regular clients at Niles Animal Hospital. Mr. Justo was one of the kindest people you would ever want to meet and our staff absolutely loved him. He had a warm, engaging personality, was very gregarious and treated our staff wonderfully. But one of the most endearing qualities he had was the deep abiding affection he had for his beloved pets. He put the care of his dogs above anything else and provided the utmost in care for them. He would do anything to make sure they remained healthy and not be in discomfort. Any death like this is tragic, but the loss of a loving man like Mr. Justo makes it all the more heartwrenching. He will be sorely missed.

A tragedy like this also shows what a cruel place this world can be. I had heard that there had been a rash of armed robberies in that area so as more information is learned about this incident there will be a better understanding of the circumstances. If it is indeed a robbery gone bad it just shows, how to some people, how "cheap" the life of another human being is if they can just kill someone so brutally.  I hope and pray that the perpetrators are found and justice is served.

  1. I was watching a news clip from WGN and they said he was found in his basement with severe head trauma last evening and that he was brutally attacked. They suspect it was a robbery that went wrong. The police are conducting a very in depth investigation.

I just saw him with two of his dogs a week or so ago for routine check-ups. It was always a pleasure interacting with him. He was so concerned about the health of his pets.

My heart just aches thinking of the brutal attack he suffered....no one deserves that, but knowing his caring nature it makes it even worse.

I will be watching the news tonight to see how the investigation unfolds. It just shows we can never feel too safe anymore.

  2. I am so very sorry to hear this. A good, kind life brutally snuffed out. And now these pets he so lovingly cared for are orphans. That surely would have broken his heart.

  3. I was watching the news tonight and it showed that his stepson was taking the three dogs home with him. Each of the neighbors that they interviewed on the newscasts I watched spoke affectionately about Mr. Justo and his dogs.

  4. They have someone in custody. A 34 year old man who lived a few doors down from Mr. Justo. The news report said he was attacked with a hammer and a bat in an apparent robbery gone bad. It will be interesting to see how this tragic episode plays out. I am a benevolent person, but a despicable person who was capable of such a horrific act deserves to be locked up forever with no chance of parole.
